Shorter days, colder nights. It’s a perfect time to catch up on some good reads. November is packed with a number of bike book events, all related to new, woman-owned bicycle-related book writers and publishers in Portland.
Women on Wheels
April Streeter, author of Women on Wheels, and multiple contributors to Elly Blue’s Taking the Lane Quarterly will read at a small press bicycling event at Powell’s on Hawthorne (SE Hawthorne at 37th Avenue) on Thursday, Novevember 8th at 7:30.
Hop in the Saddle
Hop in the Saddle, a guidebook to beer tasting by bicycle in Portland by Ellee Thalheimer and Lucy Burningham, is having a release party at Velo Cult, 1969 NE 42nd Ave, on Thursday, November 15th at 6:00 p.m. It’ll be a fun event and all are invited.
Taking the Lane will be participating in Print Fancy, organized by Reading Frenzy and held at the IPRC at SE 12th & Division on Saturday, November 17th from 6:45 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

If you’re interested in touring Oregon by bicycle, check out Ellee Thalheimer’s book, Cycling Sojourner, a guide of the best multi-day bike touring in Oregon.
The Portland Society
Are you noticing a pattern here? Lots of smart women writing books about cycling. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s an entire society of savvy women in Portland who are making things happen. It’s called the Portland Society.
Whether you are a business owner, employee, independent contractor, creative entrepreneur, or student, the Portland Society provides an opportunity to create connections.
The Portland Society holds its monthly meeting at 8am the first Wednesday of the month.
